Basil Green “Hummingbirds in Love” Pillow (Cuban Emeralds)
This is a one-of-a-kind custom accent pillow. The design has an elegant feel. It has a pair of male and female hummingbirds looking at each other.
We have a matching hummingbird pillow made with the same fabrics (Item 187). (Of course, if you purchase the matching pillows together, we will give you a shipping discount.) (Item 189 — a palm tree design — uses the same fabrics.)
These birds are from fifth volume of John Gould's five volume book, “A Monograph of the Trcochilidae,” or, the family of hummingbirds — Image 268. John Gould was a famous ornithologist that lived from 1804 to 1881. This book of his was published in 1861 and is now in the public domain.
This particular type of hummingbird is called, “Sporadinus Riccordii,” or, “Chlorostilbon Riccordii.” In English, they are also known as Riccord's Hummingbirds, or the Cuban Emerald. They are found in locations like Cuba and the Bahamas.
In the original design, the flowers are white instead of pink. However, if you would like to place a custom order with this design, you might wish to consider some other color such as: blue, magenta, purple, or yellow.
John researched the design, and Beth created the pillow design. Beth uses great computerized embroidery and sewing machines for the bulk of the work, then hand sews the final side shut. The fabric has a soft, smooth feel.
The pillow size is approximately 12″ x 16″ x 4″. As always, inside there is a new, soft pillow insert.
The side panels and back are made with a beautiful green fabric. The center panel in the front is an ivory fabric. They are very nice, natural looking fabrics.
