Blue & Off-White Embroidered Pigmy Kingfisher Accent Pillow.

This is stunningly beautiful pillow. It is our very first product with this new design.
This design has an interesting story behind it.
First of all, the design is of a Pigmy Kingfisher sitting on a branch. Pigmy Kingfishers are adorable little birds. The range is mainly in Africa. They are about 12&ndash13 cm in length (4&ndash5 inches). Its dark blue crown distinguishes it from the similar African dwarf kingfisher. This type of kingfisher does not only eat small fish, but also eats insects like grasshoppers, praying mantis, crickets and worms, dragonflies and moths. If small enough they will also eat geckos, lizards and small crabs. Their call is a high pitched, “tsip-tsip.”
Second, this particular embroidery design is based upon a beautiful illustration in, Album of Abyssinian Birds and Mammals, by the naturalist/ornithologist Louis Agassiz Fuertes (American, 1874–1927). This album was published in 1930, and is now in the public domain. You can download it at Biodiversity Heritage Library.

This is a high stitch count design. John researched and digititized the design. Beth created the pillow design. She uses great computerized embroidery and sewing machines for the bulk of the work, then hand sews the final side shut.
The front center panel uses an ivory/cream upholstery fabric with the embroidered design, and a blue fabric on each side of the center panel and on the back. Note the texture, pattern on this blue fabric. Both of the fabrics have a nice soft feel. Also, notice the dark blue decorative trim on each side of the center panel.
The pillow size is approximately 14″ x 14″ x 4″. Inside we have used — as always — a new, soft, high quality pillow insert.
