Description:

A majestic African "Greater Kudu" embroidered pillow

Recently, we made some African-themed custom pillows for a client. This is a new Embroiderglyphs design that expands on that theme.

This is a very proud, majestic looking Kudu. There are two subspecies of Kudus: Lesser, and Greater. This is a Greater Kudu.

The side panels and back of the pillow use a fabric with a giraffe pattern.

The original artwork that this Kudu is based upon comes from a book called, “Wild Life of the World,” by Richard Lydekker, F.R.S.

Richard Lydekker (1841–1915) was an English naturalist and geologist. His book, “Wild Life of the World” is now in the public domain. Most people estimate the publication date as 1916 but nobody seems to be certain. It does not have a copyright notice.

This book came in three volumes. His Kudu image is in volume three. The plate lies between pages 82 and 83.

Kudus are a type of antelope. This particular Kudu probably weighed in at about 200 pounds — which is quite large for a type of antelope. Each side of his rack spirals about 3 times — which is about the maximum for a Kudu. Notice how the multiple thread colors emphasize the lighting on the rack. Notice the white chevron mark on the bridge of his nose. Even the mane on his back use multiple thread colors to emphasize the lighting.

Kudus are becoming increasingly rare. Their ranges in Africa are under pressure from Africa's increasingly drier climate.

This would look great in an African or cabin decor. It would be perfect for a mancave! ;-)

This pillow would be a great asset for an interior decorator designing an African themed room, or for a real estate agent staging a home for sale.

The pillow size is approximately 12″ x 16″ x 4″. Inside the pillow is a new, soft, high quality pillow insert.

John researched and digitized the design and Beth did the embroidery. Beth uses great computerized embroidery and sewing machines for the bulk of the work, then hand sews the final side shut.

This is our first product using this new design.

Of course, we can put our designs on totes, sweatshirts and other embroidable items as well. This Kudu would look very nice on sweatshirts.

When we ship your pillows, we place them in an extra large ziplock bag, and then in a new, high quality shipping box. Your new pillows will be well protected during shipping.
