Red Accent Pillow with the Chinese character for “Double Happiness.”
This is a one-of-a-kind custom accent pillow. The design used is the Chinese symbol for happiness. The thread color is red. The pillow size is approximately 12″ x 16″ x 4″. The white fabric, in the center panel, is a soft flannel. The side panels red. The back is red and white. Inside, there is a new, soft, high quality pillow insert.
The design has a simple but elegant oriental feel. It is traditional to use the “double happiness” symbol in China. Usually, this is done in red, but we have used other colors for other items — like totes. The symbol is the character, “xǐ.” It translates: happiness, to be fond of, to like, to enjoy, to feel pleased, delight, glad. The particular calligraphic style is an elegant traditional style that works great for embroidery. Doubling this symbol can refer to a couple. It is often used in the context of a wedding gift. John modified the two symbols slightly to imply a man and woman touching, or leaning into each other.
John researched the design, researched and translated the chinese text, and Beth did the embroidery. Beth uses great computerized embroidery and sewing machines that allows us to reproduce this design easily.
If you would like something different in Chinese, let us know. John already has translated over 500 popular Chinese words, phrases, and idioms that he can digitize. Chances, are he can do something custom. This would also be great on a tote, or sweatshirt. If you prefer, we can easily make this design with the English “Happiness” underneath. (There would be no digitizing fee for Chinese characters, since we can reuse them in the future.)
